With smartphones becoming such a large part of our daily lives, keeping them charged is a feat, having to carry around a plug and cord to charge your phone. Scrambling to that open outlet, to get that few extra percent charge on your phone, so you can surf Facebook for 20 more minutes, before anyone else gets the same idea.
Your problems are soon to be alleviated, short of having infinite battery life, inventors are stretching the limits of furniture and home surfaces. Being in the tech capital of the world, Silicon Valley, we have already seen it incorporated into our daily lives. Companies such as Starbucks, are already showing off their wireless charging tables. By simply placing your phone on their wireless charging tables, your phone can receive a charge. DuPont has plans in the works to have Corian (a polymer material), which is often used for kitchen or bathroom countertops, incorporate wireless charging into the material. This would allow you to set your wireless rechargeable phone on the Corian, and receive a charge, anywhere on the countertop. The possibilities are endless, and with more “smart homes” being build, we can be sure to see the limits pushed even further.
DuPont Building Innovations has joined the Power Matters Alliance (PMA) and is working with other PMA members on wireless charging solutions for smartphones and tablets that can be effectively integrated into worktops made with DuPont™ Corian® solid surface.
